Cold Rooms

Cold room installation for London food businesses requires precise design, quality modular panel systems, and F-Gas certified commissioning. Our team has installed cold rooms for restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and food production facilities across London since 2009. Every installation includes a free design survey, full HACCP-compliant commissioning, and written documentation for your food safety records.

A cold room is the highest-value refrigeration investment most London food businesses make. Getting the specification wrong costs money in energy, in temperature instability, and in premature plant failure. We carry out a detailed site survey before every cold room installation to confirm the right design for your operation.

Cold Room Types We Install

We install cold rooms to any specification, from a single 2m x 2m chill room to a multi-zone cold store complex. The following are the most common types we install in London.

Chill Rooms (0°C to 5°C)

Chill rooms are the standard cold storage solution for restaurants, hotels, and food service operations. We design and install chill rooms using Huurre or Viessmann modular insulated panels, sized to your available floor area and storage volume requirements. Each installation includes the panel structure, condensing unit, evaporator, digital temperature controller, and door furniture including strip curtains or air curtains.

Freeze Rooms (-18°C to -22°C)

Freeze room installations require higher-performance insulation panels (typically 120mm to 150mm thick) and condensing units rated for low-temperature operation. We install freeze rooms for food production, catering, and distribution operations across London. Floor heating elements are included where required to prevent floor frost heave.

Multi-Zone Cold Stores

Some London operations require multiple temperature zones in a single cold store area. We design and build multi-zone stores with chill and freeze compartments separated by internal partition panels. Each zone has its own condensing unit and temperature controller, giving independent control and compliance documentation for each zone.

Cold Room Refurbishment

Existing cold rooms often fail through insulation degradation, door seal failure, or condensing unit wear rather than panel failure. We carry out cold room refurbishment including insulation panel replacement, new door assemblies, condensing unit replacement, and lighting upgrades. Refurbishment is usually significantly more cost-effective than a full new build where the panel structure remains sound.

The Design and Installation Process

Our cold room installation process is structured to confirm the right outcome from day one.

Site Survey and Design

Our engineer visits your premises to assess the available space, electrical supply capacity, drainage arrangements, and thermal loads. We ask about your typical storage volumes, product types, and throughput patterns. From this information, we produce a dimensioned cold room design and a refrigeration plant specification.

Panel Selection and Ordering

We specify modular insulated panels from Huurre or Viessmann, selecting the correct panel thickness for the required operating temperature. Floor panels, wall panels, ceiling panels, and door frames are manufactured to the exact dimensions of your installation.

Installation

Cold room installation typically takes between 2 and 5 days depending on the room size. Our installation team assembles the panel structure, fits the refrigeration plant, runs the electrical connections, and installs the temperature monitoring system.

Commissioning and Documentation

Every cold room is fully commissioned before handover. We carry out a temperature pull-down test to verify the room reaches and maintains the specified operating temperature under load. We issue an F-Gas commissioning certificate, an electrical test certificate, and a commissioning report with temperature performance data. This documentation is designed to satisfy FSA food safety inspection requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a cold room installation cost in London?

Cold room installation costs depend on the room size, specification, and site conditions. A standard chill room of 6m x 3m typically costs between £8,000 and £15,000 installed, including the panel structure, refrigeration plant, and commissioning. We provide a detailed, fixed-price quotation following the site survey.

How long does cold room installation take?

A standard single-zone cold room takes between 2 and 4 days to install and commission. Larger or multi-zone cold stores take longer. We confirm the installation programme at the quotation stage and work around your operational schedule wherever possible.

What warranty do you provide on cold room installations?

We provide a 12-month workmanship warranty on all cold room installations. Modular panel systems come with a manufacturer's warranty of 5 to 10 years. Refrigeration plant is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, typically 12 to 24 months on parts.
